Meet Caleb

Caleb Chang isn’t just a counsellor; he understands the challenges life throws your way. As a husband, father of two adult children (one biological and one adopted), and someone caring for his elderly mother with dementia, he’s navigated the complexities of family, responsibility, and unexpected life changes. At 50, he made the deliberate decision to return to school, recognizing the need for practical tools and strategies to navigate these complexities. This wasn’t a theoretical exercise for him; it was about finding real solutions to real-world problems.

This experience drove him to pursue a Master’s of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Trinity Western University and earn his designation as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association (CCPA). Caleb brings both academic expertise and firsthand experience to his practice. He understands that life isn’t always linear and that sometimes you need someone who gets what it means to carry a heavy load. He’s committed to providing trauma-informed, evidence-based practices in a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental manner. His strategies are holistic, practical, and effective to help you unpack your own challenges and move forward with greater clarity and resilience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Therapy Covered by My Insurance?
Many health insurance plans cover therapy with licensed professionals like counsellors, but coverage varies. Most employer-sponsored plans include mental health benefits, and extended health benefits often reimburse therapy costs. To confirm your coverage, contact your insurance provider with or review your policy. A sliding scale may be offered to those without coverage.

Will My Sessions Be Confidential?
Confidentiality is fundamental in counselling. Therapists are legally required to protect your privacy, sharing information only if there are concerns about harm to yourself or others or if court-mandated. This allows you to speak freely without fear of judgment.

What If I Need to Cancel My Appointment?
Consistency and continuity are essential aspects of counselling. Typically, this means we will meet weekly, except during holidays, illness, or vacations.

Your scheduled session time is specifically reserved for you. If you need to cancel, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur a $75 late cancellation fee. Should this happen more than once, the full session fee will be charged.

What If I Feel Uncomfortable During Sessions?
Feeling uneasy at the start of therapy is normal. A good therapist will provide a safe space for you to express yourself. If discomfort arises, communicate with your therapist so they can adjust their approach.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions varies based on individual circumstances and goals. Some clients find relief in a few sessions, while others may need longer-term therapy. Your therapist will help create a plan that suits your needs.

What If I Don’t See Results?
Therapy takes time and effort. If you feel stuck after several sessions, discuss this with your therapist. They can help reassess your goals and adjust the approach to better meet your needs.

What Does Rucksack Mean?
“Rucksack” is the German word for backpack. The rucksack metaphor in therapy symbolizes the emotional weight we carry through life. Just as a physical backpack can become heavy with unnecessary items, our psychological rucksack accumulates unprocessed experiences, traumas, and emotional baggage. Therapy helps men unpack this metaphorical rucksack, examine its contents, discard what no longer serves them, and reorganize their emotional load more effectively. By understanding and lightening this mental burden, individuals can move more freely and purposefully through life, reducing stress and improving overall mental well-being.
